An Overnight Success is about 15 years in the making...
JAFIB Wear is a clothing brand that I founded in 2010. The clothing line uses an Industrial Band theme as the prominent design motif of its merchandise. The brand's insignia is a script drawing of the acronym/abbreviated name, and an icon of a hand on a record. The JAFIB Wear line includes t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, scarves, stocking caps, and stickers.
While working at a CD and tapes store during college, I met and worked with Matt Klein. Together, we were given new music promo CD's, one was "In Search of Manny". We found out that a couple of girls formed a band without knowing how to play instruments. That band was Luscious Jackson. So we decided to do the same. With our fondness of Meat Beat Manifesto, Nine Inch Nails, we thought Industrial music would be best fit for us. Coming up with the moniker J.A.F.I.B. and a few sticker designs, we were on our way. School and personal relationships got in our way of learning to play the instruments, but we still distributed the stickers for a while.
I went on to graphic design school which led to designing tees for Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac and others, from 1998 - 2004. I kept making the old JAFIB stickers, but nothing came of it until 2010 when a friend, who had stumbled across a bakery in Boston selling t-shirts with cupcakes on them, called me to say it would be insane if I didn't do the same with my JAFIB designs, from the stickers he stuck everywhere.
After a little research and design, the first shirt design was shown to potential customers in late 2010. It was a super soaker colored green with the words Greenpiece underneath. These all sold out. Which led to more orders and new music/band related designs. Let me know what your favorite is... firstname.lastname@example.org
